Follow these instruction carefully to ensure a proper tight fit for your Wheelskins Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Cover. Time Required: 30 to 60 minutes.
Wheelskins Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Covers are designed to fit tightly on your steering wheel. The lacing cord is unbreakable and the lacing holes are reinforced to resist tearing so you can pull very tightly on the cord while lacing. You may want to wear gloves to protect your hands during installation.
1. Stretch and properly position the steering wheel cover on the steering wheel with the sewn seam at the bottom of the wheel.
2. Thread the lacing needle as show.

3. Begin lacing at any point on the steering wheel which is NOT at the sewn seam or at a spoke of the wheel.
TO START: Insert the needle between the edges of the cover and out through a front hole. Pull all but a few inches of lacing out through the hole, leave these few inches of lacing to tie at when finished. Then insert the needle through the rear hole directly behind the starting from hole and diagonally through to the next front hole to the left. Pull the stitch tight and continue lacing in this manner. Pull each stitch tight as you lace to lock the edges of the steering wheel cover together. You cannot tighten more than one stitch at a time. Remember: TIGHT IS RIGHT!
4. The lacing holes on your steering wheel cover have been matched so there is the identical number on each side. You should use every lacing hole, however with some wheels that have exceptionally wide spokes it may be necessary to skip several at this position. If it is necessary to skip holes on your wheel be sure to skip the same number on the front and rear.
5. After you have completed lacing around the wheel, insert the needle through the last rear hole and up between the edges of the cover. The two ends of the lacing cord should both be sticking out of the cover at this position. Tie a tight double knot and clip off the excess lacing cord and then tuck the knot out of the way between the edges of the cover.

1. How do I know what size Wheelskins Steering Wheel Cover I need for my vehicle? Just click on sizes to find your vehicle. If your vehicle is not listed, or if it requires a Special Order size, click on measure for measuring instructions. When measuring around the grip, measure at the top of the wheel and around the highest point of the slight finger bumps that are on the back side of most wheels. Don’t measure at the thumb rests that are on many modern wheels at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions. The leather is elastic enough to stretch over the thumb rests. Special Order sizes are generally necessary for older or antique vehicles, or aftermarket steering wheels.
2. Do you make Steering Wheel Covers to fit my Heavy Duty Truck? Yes, we make covers in 18”, 20” and 22” sizes for heavy duty trucks such as Peterbilt, Freightliner, Kenworth, etc.

5. My steering wheel has wide spokes. How do I deal with the spokes during installation? The illustrated installation instructions show you how to lace around the spokes, how to skip holes at the spokes, or how to use dummy stitches at the spokes. We suggest the dummy stitches if your spokes are 2” wide or wider where they connect to the wheel. Click on the Original page to see the dummy stitches on the Grey single color Wheelskin.

9. How do I clean and maintain my Steering Wheel Cover? Your Steering Wheel Cover is made of leather that is specifically tanned and finished for Wheelskins. We recommend that you gently use hand soap and water to remove any surface soil buildup. Avoid all purpose cleaners and protectants that will remove the special finishes and coatings on the leather. Also, most leather cleaners are made for the extremely hard finishes found on upholstery leathers, and these cleaners are unsuitable for the Wheelskins leather. In addition, many perfumes, colognes, and after shave lotions contain alcohol and other chemicals that could harm the leather. We recommend that your hands be free of these substances before you drive. |
